Ford’s SYNC3 may also be heading for SA later this year

Ford is apparently launching the SYNC3 connected car system this summer not only in the US, but also in Europe and right here in Mzansi. The voice-activated 8-inch infotainment center which we’ve seen in live previews easily find establishments for you – all with the press of a button – will most likely be heading to South African soil. And, according to the country’s Brand Manager, Kuda Takura, since the automaker is baking both Android Auto and Apple Car Play support into the system for US and EU regions, South African drivers can expect to pair it with either an iPhone or an Android device – should these services get licensed for our market.

If you’ll recall, this version of SYNC makes some big strides toward matching the experience you get on your smartphone. Besides touting an easier (or rather, less cumbersome) interface, Takura emphasized it will bring a speedier experience, and also brings in support for phone-like capacitive touch, more natural voice commands and WiFi updating. SYNC3 is much smarter about talking to your mobile gear, as well. Ford will further explore the SYNC3 system with the introduction of the new Everest later this year.
