When we were introduced to iKhokha mid-last year, the mobile payments company was just launching its funding campaign. The idea was different than an NFC-based mobile payment service (such as Isis or Google Wallet): using the Edge chip & PIN card reader attached to your phone, you can make purchases on almost any point-of-sale system that accepts credit and debit cards.
Fortunately, the guys at iKhokha have kept busy the last few months; not only was its funding campaign a success, it also secured plenty of additional financing on its own. Now that the Edge (shown above) has made its way to financial backers, interested buyers in Mzansi can finally get their chance to buy the R989 device (R69 monthly for 24 months) and its corresponding iOS and Android iKhokha app, which serves as the hub for all of your credit and debits cards.
