More than three months after the first builds of Windows Phone 8.1 hit the scene, Microsoft is ready to tick more features off the to-do list with the OS’s first refresh. Known aptly as Update 1, the download will be available as a developer preview starting next week. Understandably, Cortana is on the top of the release notes, because the beta program will officially expand to the UK and China as promised in April. This means users in both countries can enjoy different voices and more localized options, such as air quality info, local celebrities, specialized suggestions and commute times.
Unfortunately, for us, the expansion efforts stops there. Microsoft SA has dismissed all rumours of the update reaching us while only users in Canada, Australia or India will be treated to an alpha English version of the personal assistant.
[quote_center]We know there has been a lot of enthusiasm about Cortana in many markets around the world, and Microsoft wants to give more people the ability to start using Cortana. Cortana is available fully in the US, and has been made available as a “beta” in China and the UK. Just yesterday, we’re also starting a new “alpha” program in three countries: Canada, India, and Australia. This early adopter program will be opt-in and give people the ability to try Cortana using English language models from the US and the UK. Regarding availability in other markets, we have nothing to share at this time[/quote_center]
