Huawei is mostly known for their smartphone offering which continues to see amazing growth and popularity with the launch of every new device, an occurrence that’s happening frequently lately at an impressive rate. Something the company isn’t largely known for though, at least not yet especially from a local point of view, is its wearables product range something the company is aiming to put right. Just a few weeks ago Huawei launched a range of smart wearables locally for the first time.
The eight devices, each of which are compatible with all operating systems, are stylish yet affordable, and designed to suit all kinds of South Africans – from the fitness obsessed to the casual exerciser. One of these, and our focus today, is the nifty Band 2 Pro device.
We are currently spending sometime with the Band 2 Pro device and we can’t help but have nothing good things to say about it so far. Selling at a recommended retail price of R1299, the Band 2 Pro isn’t exactly cheap but also considering similar competitor fitness tracking devices its going up against you would have to say that the cost is very reasonable.
It not only has the usual heart rate tracking and step tracking, but also comes equipped with nifty features like GPS, waterproofing, and the option for continuous heart rate tracking to measure VO2 max. By the way, continuous tracking is almost unheard of for a tracker at that price point so the Band 2 Pro comes out winning in that sense.
From a visual and aesthetics point of view, you can’t help but notice that the Band 2 Pro looks almost exactly like any other typical fitness tracking device. Therefore you will be forgiven for initially thinking that it’s a Fitbit or something similar. This however shouldn’t matter that much as the main thing that counts (at least to us) is the actual functionality the device offers. The fact that it’s also very comfortable whilst wearing it makes it a great wearable to keep on you all day and everyday.
Design and Comfortability
In terms of the functionality, the device’s main method of navigation is a touchscreen bar near the bottom of the Band 2. This makes it very to easy to use with the responsiveness also being equally great with no lapse we experienced every time we used it. The device is linked and seamlessly syncs with the Huawei Wear app (also available on iOS) which displays all the info you would need, from your sleep patterns to the amount of steps achieved and much more.
Huawei’s Health app has a cool feature called “TruSleep” which basically tracks how long you stayed in different phases of sleep each night. We found this to be a pretty nifty feature that gauges your quality of sleep as well as gives you tips on how to get better sleep moving forward.
Verdict
We have been really impressed with the Band 2 Pro which delivers the best of comfort and all the essential data tracking you would require from a typical wearable. What it offers at its current price point especially when we go on to further compare it to its competitors we can’t argue with the fact that it’s a solid choice to opt for.
