Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric to launch in Mzansi by August

Volvo has officially confirmed that the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric will be launching on Mzansi soil. According to a statement released by the company this afternoon, following its recharged virtual event, the electric XC40 will see its local introduction by August 2021.

In case you missed it, the XC40 Recharge puts its plug-in credentials front and centre, with a range of more than 400 kilometres and a 0-100 km/h time of 4.9 seconds.

It’s based on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture, or CMA, a mid-sized unibody platform that the automaker co-developed with its Chinese backer Geely. That platform already underpins the XC40 in petrol and diesel forms, and the Polestar 2. That drivetrain flexibility is because electrification was built into the CMA from the outset.
