Microsoft announces unique Nextbook tablet lineup for SA

When Microsoft invited us to a “small gathering on what’s next” here in Johannesburg, we thought that finally meant the Surface tablet range was making its way to SA or better yet we thought we’d be among the first to get a sneak peek at the Nokia-less handsets. Nonetheless, the company just announced the launch of its low-cost devices called Nextbook, these make up part of its Windows Reference Design devices that will be available in South Africa.

The Nextbook tablets come in two sizes, namely 8″ for users who want to read e-books or watch movies while commuting and 10.1″ for consumers who need more screen real estate for squeezing in more columns into their Excel spread sheets, reads the press statement.

In addition these offerings being thin, they’re both relatively lightweight, at around 800g (1.76 pounds). And let’s be clear: When we say “relatively,” we mean compared to a 12-inch laptop that provides similar functionality.

Currently, the Nextbook is only available from Makro stores countrywide and retails for R1 499 for the 8″ variant and R2 999 for the 10.1″ version.
