Alcatel, today 30 October, announced two new handsets destined for South Africa ‘soon’ at a launch event in Johannesburg.
Both the Idol S and OneTouch Pixi have been confirmed for South Africa with local network testing underway. The Pixi will be released just in time for Christmas at a recommended price of R699. Smaller than Idol S, the Pixi runs on Android 2.3 with a 1300mAh battery, features a 3.5″ HVGA (320×480) display, VGA camera, 1GHz processor and 256MB RAM.
The Idol S on the other hand is the larger of the two weighs 110 grams, has a 4.7-inch 1,280 x 720-pixel screen and DC-HSPA/ LTE data connectivity. It’s powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, has 4GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM and an 8-megapixel rear / 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.
The Pixi is said to be available at PEP Cell, Ackermans and Edcon (Edgars, CNA, Jet, Legit) retailers before the end of the year. The Alcatel Idol S on the other hand is expected to reach us during Q1 of 2014 at a RRP OF R2999.
