For a while now, I have been procastinating about putting pen on paper and writing this featured review on WoodChuck Case. Because, emotions. It’s not something that I dragged, nor did it sit heavy on my hearts but its just that… I’ve fallen in love with the brand, its vision, what led to it being [what it is today] that makes me feel like my old self before a rugby game in high school (I love Rugby).

[dropcap1]W[/dropcap1]oodchuck, the american based start-up turned success that – through its products – (1.) wants to bring nature back to the people, (2.) bring jobs back to america and (3.) bring quality products back to consumers. Are they succeeding? Hell yeah! When a South Afrcan based blog (this would be us) find out about your products and want to feature you, you best believe you’re doing a lot of things right. The brand was founded by Ben VandenWymelenberg who came up with the idea for WOODCHUCK while working on a late night college finals project. One night, while drinking a beer and building a model for his college architecture class, then-22-year-old Ben thought it might be interesting to stick a wooden adhesive to his iPhone. This little experiment sparked an idea that would change his life forever.Neat.

But my initial interaction with the team at WoodChuck was through their then publicist at Skyya, whom by my surprise directed me straight to one of the founders Ben partered with to get the business off the ground, Kevin Groenjes. This was a big surprise, don’t these big American corporations have assistants upon assistants that first have to check my credit rating and criminal record before directing me to the big shot? Ha!
Kevin managed to introduce me to the brand that is WoodChuck then, where they were and future aspects (in terms of growth). And now there’s only Ben left at WoodChuck. He is the founder, CEO and Visionary Designer who has shaped the brand to what it truly is today. Since my discovery of the brand, they have evolved from selling iPhone and Mac cases, skins and sleeves to expanding on another frontier of journals, accessories, money clips and tons of corporate products. Browsing their website now, it would be a shame not to order one of our clients a custom key-chain.
Enough about the makers of the brand for now, we’re here for the product that is WoodChuck (trust me not to miss out on an opportunity of getting a hands-on)

Our SA VIBE customized iPhone 5 and MacBook skins arrived exactly two weeks after the prescribed email letting us know our woody delivery has left American shores. How awesome was this? Roughly the same time it takes for a local deliver to get to your door. We love being bombarded with mails of all sorts and we didn’t hesitate opening the recycled packaging and getting started.
Its relatively easy to fix the custom skin to your handset and PC. They don’t even come with instructions (you can find these on their website when in need). Contents of your package are set to differ depending on what you ordered, in our case we had 4 wood leaflets; One for the front of the iPhone another for the back, while the third bigger leaf was reserved for the MacBook’s top and the last one for its bottom/back.

To fix the skins on your device you just had to wipe your gadgets clean, remove the T3 quality adhesive exposing its stickiness and attach them on each of the devices. Paying particular attention to the small details and alignment and we’re done. The end result is something that would make you want to walk around the office mall with your Mac under your pits. Have no fear, showing off my new look Mac and iPhone on Instagram was enough to cause unrest among my friends.
Four weeks in and I’m falling more and more in love with my skins everyday. What makes the WoodChuck Casing a plus is the strong, non destructive adhesive that allows you to remove and affix it on a couple of times and still hold as if it were the first time. The skins have a natural, woody feel and design (it is REAL natural elements after all) which takes me to my happy place.
The iPhone 5 case (skin) retails from between R299 and R599 ($29,99 and $59,99) with option to customize it while Laptop cases start at a steep R499 to R1299. So head over to their website to cop your favourite.
