The service, available exclusively on the airline’s Starlink-connected aircraft, allows passengers to stream Sport 24 and Sport 24 Extra channels directly to their personal devices via a QR code system. This means travelers can watch everything from UEFA Champions League matches to Formula 1 races without missing the action while airborne.

“Our partnership with IMG marks another leap forward in redefining the inflight experience,” said Qatar Airways Group CEO Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer. “As the first global airline to introduce Starlink’s high-speed connectivity combined with live sports streaming, we are proud to bring passengers closer to the sporting moments that matter most – wherever they are in the world.”

Starlink makes the difference

The key to making live sports streaming work at 35,000 feet is Qatar Airways’ Starlink internet connectivity, which the airline claims provides broadband speeds comparable to home internet. Qatar Airways is currently the only MENA region carrier and among the few globally offering this level of in-flight connectivity across both its Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 fleets.

As of June 2025, the airline has completed over 12,000 Starlink-connected flights, with the entire Boeing 777-300ER fleet now equipped with the satellite internet system. This infrastructure investment is what enables the streaming quality needed for live sports content.

IMG President Adam Kelly noted the importance of live sports viewing: “Live sport is one of the last remaining appointment-to-view events that people prefer to watch in real time. As consumer viewing habits continue to evolve, passengers want more ways to enjoy live sport onboard so they never have to miss a moment of the action.”

Timing with major sporting events

The launch comes ahead of a busy sporting calendar, with coverage planned for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, Wimbledon Championships, the British Open, Formula 1 races, and various cricket matches available through the summer months.

Sport 24 and Sport 24 Extra, produced at IMG’s London studios, attracted over 10 million passenger viewers last year across all airlines that carry the service. Qatar Airways is positioning this as making that content “more accessible than ever” through the personal device streaming approach.

We will also get a deeper look into Penelope and Colin’s love story, with the highly anticipated second part of Bridgerton’s third season releasing onto the service on the 13th of June. The new Business Class cabin on Air France’s flights between Paris and Johannesburg will feature a total of 28 seats, each equipped with the latest in-flight entertainment systems and luxurious amenities. The cabin is designed to provide passengers with a comfortable and relaxing environment, allowing them to unwind and enjoy their flight.

The new cabin is equipped with seats that recline fully into a comfortable bed, providing passengers with a restful night’s sleep on long-haul flights. Helmed by Henri Martens, Sotto Sopra is an unquestionably charming, unquestionably diminutive Italian two fold (See what we did there?) cocktail bar meets restaurant tucked along the Keyes Art Mile strip of upmarket and niche restaurants and shops. The cosy space is imbued with Venetian-esque flair inspired by the likes of Carlo Scarpa and from the irreverent and geometric designs of Ettore Sottsass and the Memphis group. From the original art hangings on the walls to the very instagrammable bathrooms.

After perching at the Sotta bar and snagging a bottle of MCC from the all-natural lineup, my partner and I happily ordered half the menu at Sopra. It was late summer on Valentine’s Day, so we were especially spoiled: Stuffed Calamari with Olives, capers, parmesan and breadcrumbs, Smoked duck, fig, baby potatoes and rockets, Twice cooked pulled beef short rib agnolotti, red wine syrup, heirloom, baby carrot and beef reduction. Then there was Foresta di Fungi Risotto with truffle oil, Parmesan, garnished with rocket and liquorice powder. It was too much. It was perfect.

By the time 10 p.m. rolled around, I was completely sold on Sotto Sopra and the Keyes Art Mile. (I’ll admit my mood was influenced by a few glasses of the MCC and the casually chic staff who scribbled down restaurant recommendations on the back of a menu for us in between opening bottles of Champagne for other guests.) And once I returned home, I kept thinking about that meal. Friends have warned me that it’s easiest to love the Keyes district in the heat of summer, but I can’t help but imagine waiting out a winter sunsets at Sotto’s moodily lit bar, or better yet on Sopra’s comfortably plush and cosy couches. What could be more romantic than letting the world go by with a few servings of their Poached pear, burnt caramel mousse, sesame seeds and honeycomb dust as provisions?

The Marine

There are penguins and then there are penguin sanctuaries. Found gliding through the waters around the remote St Croix Island, just east of Port Elizabeth, the african penguins – are drawn to the warm(-ish) water found on this coastal front. Raggy Charters Marine organises expeditions for close encounters – the curious creatures are known to swoop in, keeping a mere metre’s distance from boats and yachts alike, to interact safely (from a distance).

Bridge Street Brewery: The PE-based micro-brewery and cafe style eatery, elevates simple dishes with their creative approach to using local, sustainable ingredients. The tapas style menu naturally changes frequently, not only to retain its seasonal produce but also means that we can visit time and time again for a whole new experience. Current plates on the menu that must be tried are Bowman Cider Roast Pork Belly with apple chutney, a side of onion rings and your choice of a side and a seriously inviting set apple crumble served with Bowman Cider Sorbet. Pair all of this with their famous beer tasting board and you’re sorted!

Port Elizabeth has plenty to discover, but one significant highlight of its permanent exhibitions for those with an interest in conceptual art is their “Route 67”. Dubbed by many as the first large great piece of art dedicated to Nelson Mandela , Route 67 consists of 67 Public Art Works symbolising Nelson Mandela’s 67 years of work dedicated to the Freedom of South Africa and includes 67 steps leading up the second largest flag in Africa. The artworks were designed by local artists from the Eastern Cape. If you’re into way more than just artistic walks, you’ll love Sunday’s River.

We traveled about 30 minutes outside of PE where we found Sandboarding at Sunday’s River. Once here they took us across the Sundays River to the sand dunes and afforded us the opportunity to sandboard for about 3 hours. Water sports follow the same principal which takes place in the river at an additional higher cost. Not just that, but they’re able to teach clients how to wakeboard and water-ski on the Sundays River.

On your way from Sunday’s River, take a short left and you’ll end up at the Addo Elephant National Park.  Home to more than 600 elephants the Addo Elephant National Park, despite having ‘elephant’ in the name, also extends right down to the ocean and currently protects some very important islands in Algoa Bay too, namely St Croix and Bird Island. We spent half a day at this majestic park followed by a hearty lunch at it’s esteemed on-site restaurant.
