At an exclusive Volvo Cars Track Experience held at the internationally accredited multi-disciplinary Gerotek Testing Facilities located west of Pretoria this week, Volvo Cars South Africa announced that they will be investing significantly in strengthening their dealership footprint and presence locally.
This follows a 2025 announcement from the brand that they will be restructuring and downsizing its local dealership network from 19 down to 7 locations as part of a long-term brand realignment focusing on high-performing hubs in Gauteng, KZN and the Western Cape.
At the track experience, the brand mentioned that they are will soon be opening a floor in Sandton which perfectly positions them within Africa’s richest square mile and in front of affluent customers. The area already plays host to Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW who each boast these as their state-of-the-art flagship dealerships. So, it would only make sense for Volvo to ground themselves in the area too.
Volvo might just be a little too late to the party as Chinese giant BYD, and competitor, has already made their mark in the Sandton area with their flagship two-storey dealership on the Corner of Rivonia Road and Daisy Street.
Although not a direct competitor to Volvo, Jetour has also recently opened a flagship dealership in the Sandton area.
Demonstrating that its growth strategy is nationwide, Volvo bolstered its presence in the Western Cape that very same week by launching a state-of-the-art location in Century City.
“Cape Town’s automotive landscape is undergoing a swift evolution, driven by increasing consumer demand for sustainable luxury and intelligent design. Volvo Cars Century City stands at the forefront of this shift, serving as a dedicated haven for motorists seeking progressive Scandinavian engineering.” said Grant Locke, Managing Director of Volvo Cars South Africa
Lock added that additional dealership sites are currently being assessed in identified growth markets, with further announcements expected as those plans are confirmed.
