Described as a movie that “sharpens old murder-mystery tropes with a keenly assembled suspense outing that makes brilliant use of writer-director Rian Johnson’s stellar ensemble”, Knives Out is the latest flick we have firmly set our sights on before the year is officially up. A drama filled with tons of mystery and suspense, Knives Out is a movie that stars an impressive ensemble led by Daniel Craig (yes, Mr. Bond himself), Chris Evans (yes, the guy who assumed the Captain America fictional character) just to mention a few.
Complete with a touch of cheekiness sprinkled across, the movie is from acclaimed writer and director Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper, Star Wars: The Last Jedi) who pays tribute to mystery mastermind Agatha Christie, Knives Out, a fun, modern-day murder mystery where everyone is a suspect. When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death.
It might not sound like much but the movie has been getting superb reviews from those lucky enough to have seen it already. Personally, we reckon it has something to it and the dash of cheekiness had us giggling a couple of times. A mystery and suspenseful drama we are looking forward to, Knives Out is all set for release locally on 29 November.
