MTN makes collect calls possible; Pay4Me

The next time you’re feeling the pinch or like me right now you’re counting your last two cents until pay day, you’re going to be real happy MTN rolled their Pay4me service into existence. The greatest dream of the penyless within us everywhere has finally come to fruition: you can now make collect calls to cellphones from any MTN to MTN line. And hey, this isn’t just some minor advance — no, this is “lightning in a bottle,” arguably on par with the first moon landing, finding a cure for cancer, or hitting that crazy high note at the end of “Happiness Is a Warm Gun.”

Customers who want to initiate this service need to dial 127 from their MTN-sim, followed by the number they wish to call and activate the call button. Alternatively, they can dial *127* followed by the cellphone number they wish to call, followed by the # button. Say now you’re receiving the collect call (from any of your kids, or the helper) you will be pre-notified and given the option to either accept or reject the Pay4Me call. Once you accept the call, you’ll be charged on behalf of the caller at 99 per minute on a per second billing regardless of their tariff plan.

While little is known on whether there’s a call-completion rate, you don’t have to defer your dreams — now shy away from sending me those Please Call Me’s.
