This past weekend I had the opportunity to check out the action packed, and just plain crazy event simply known as Nitro Circus Live. If you have no idea what that is…my only question to you is, what planet are you living on? Just kidding…until a couple of weeks ago I also had no idea what it was. Hosted at Soccer City otherwise known as FNB Stadium, the event was very well organised (even though it was freezing cold!), something that’s always a given when the guys at Stadium Management are behind events. Everything flowed seamlessly from one point to the other.
At this point most of you probably still have no clue what I’m on about, I’m not going to keep you in any more suspense. Nitro Circus Live (also known as Nitro Circus Live: World Tour) is a show (doubles up as a reality television series) that follows Travis Pastrana and the Nitro Circus crew who all specialise in performing out of this world stunts on their tours around the world. To get a better feel, check out the below video taken from the 2014 Jozi event:
From humble beginnings, with Jeremy Rawle, Gregg Godfrey and action sports superstar Travis Pastrana producing DVDs from a garage in Utah in 2003, Nitro Circus has exploded to global popularity, leaving a burning impression on the minds of young people across the planet.
The original DVD series was a smash hit, with Travis and his crew of outrageous buddies performing skillful but insane stunts on a range of contraptions. In 2009, Nitro Circus partnered up with MTV to create a smash hit new TV series, which aired in 60+ countries over 2 seasons and was one of MTV’s most popular series of all time.
In 2010, the show was transformed by action sports industry veteran Mike Porra, creating the global phenomenon that is Nitro Circus Live. Since the inaugural tour of Australia four years ago, the show has travelled the globe, obliterating box office records and cultivating a legion of diehard fans.
The tour has now rolled across 5 continents, with sold-out shows in Australia, New Zealand, China, the United States, Canada, South Africa, and across the European Continent. With more shows each year than ever before, Nitro Circus has a firm grip on the title of the World’s most successful action sports touring brand.
It’s crazy to think that some of the guys involved literally get injured with dislocations and all sorts of messed up physical dangers. When you see the stunts they perform though, it comes as no surprise. Sadly, the Jozi event was the last in the local tour. When it does return, I’m positive it will, be sure to check it out, worth the experience for sure. I for one can’t wait for the next one! To wrap up, check out this cool interview the guys did (prior the Jozi event) with our very own 94.7 guys:
Shout-out to the Stadium Management guys for hooking a brother up with the exclusive tickets…classy!
