Papi Mabele — Thu, 10 Apr 2014 17:54:47 +0000

Just as we’re about to wrap-up news on the Galaxy S5 launch (yeah- right!) we’re told users of the new world (galaxy s5, that is) will be the first to get their hands on a smartphone application of DStv’s BoxOffice service.

Announced at the GS5 launch earlier today (10 April), the BoxOffice app will allow DStv subscribers and non-subscribers — at a cost of R30 to rent a new release, and R10 to rent older films — to stream content onto their GS5 handsets.

Samsung teases with ‘Unpacked 5’ event invites

Samsung sure knows how to whet the appetite of its fans. The Korean tech giant has announced that it’s holding an “Unpacked 5” event at Mobile World Congress on February 24th — a potentially not-so-subtle reference to the upcoming Galaxy S 5. There’s no guarantees that the new high-end smartphone will appear in Barcelona, especially when Samsung has only unveiled one Galaxy S device (the Galaxy S II) at the trade gathering. However, our invitation mentions a “flagship product,” and it comes nearly a year after the company invited us to get “ready 4 the show” — we all know what that digit was referencing. Whether or not the fifth-generation flagship makes an appearance at the event, you can be sure that we’ll be ~~there~~ live streaming it here. That’s until the local launch. Meanwhile you can enter our Samsung giveaway here and be part of the family.

Samsung Galaxy S5: Back to Basics

Whilst Samsung has took on the courage to admit that the public didn’t really warm up to the Galaxy S4 – in not seeing much difference between the S3 & S4 – they’ve gone to say the Galaxy S5 would pack a rather different design.

Samsung Exec Lee Young Hee confirmed the Galaxy S5 would arrive in March or April – shortly after the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona – accompanied by a brand new version of the Galaxy Gear SmartWatch which itself will have more advanced functions apposed to the current “bulky design” (which we currently have for review).

As the annual norm the rumor-mill doesn’t seem to have days off. Former bloggers have suggested that the new galaxy S offering will include a possible eye-scanner in the handset for greater security, though that’s still being studies.

The latests from @evleaks shows a possible TouchWiz home screen that would be a very sharp u-turn from the current offering. If ever. When all is said and done, only then will we get news on local availability and offerings.

Of course, the above picture is for illustration purposes.
