Chinese manufacturer Hisense launched a new range of TriChroma Laser TVs at CES in January, which, according to the brand will increase colour performance by almost 50 percent more than high-end cinemas.

Hisense launched this cutting-edge display with a transformative product line of Laser TV – TriChroma Laser TV. Dr Liu Xianrong, the Chief Scientist of Hisense Laser Display, explained that the technology controls separate lasers to get purer colours for display. A 128% improvement is achieved in the original RGB colour. TriChroma also attains 20% brightness enhanced at the pixel-level with a 430-nit picture brightness, exceeding that of a regular TV.

Empowered with TriChroma laser technology, the new TV product lines include various screen sizes, from 75-inch to 100-inch. Since the colour gamut coverage reaches up to 151% of the DCI-P3 film colour standard, it is almost 50% beyond high-end cinema.

Local availability, exact models and pricing will be announced later this year.

Hisense has without a doubt ruled the TV sales in Southern Africa for the past six months – or so. I mean, heck, even I own one of their sets.

That hasn’t stopped the brand from reaching to newer heights though, as they gear up for the launch of their new generation ULED TV’s taking place in Johannesburg tomorrow. Given the lure and walk-through we got at IFA Berlin, we’ve got quite an idea of the TV sets we can expect from Hisense. Their invitation gives quite an emphasis on the word ‘U’.

4K ULED M7000

The company introduced this 4K-ready TV to the US and UK markets roughtly 2 months ago. A dim factsheet details that the TV is actually an LED TV with some built-in improvements to allow for local dimming.

That means the set’s backlight has been designed to respond to the image on-screen, and dim when needed to offer better contrast in low-light scenes, and more vibrant whites in others.

Elsewhere, there’s a quad-core processor powering the TV, plus built-in Wi-Fi, along with a load of smart features and apps including iPlayer and Netflix.

Amazon Prime Video is also pre-installed, and seeing as both Netflix and Amazon now allow you to stream 4K content, it’s software worth having.

K760 SERIES 55″ Curved Smart ULED TV

Be prepared to imagine a new era of television with the Hisense Smart TV. That all is according to Hisense’s global website. The set features a Smart TV with Built-in WIFI, 4 HDMI Allows Multiple HD Connection, D-LED Technology, High Contrast Ratio for “Blacker” Blacks & Brighter Colours and Crisp 3840 x 2160 resolution.

The rest is pretty much a mystery though follow me for live tweets and up-to-the-minute updates on their U TV launch event.

If it wasn’t busy enough selling hundreds and thousands of smartphones, Hisense’s TV department has proven it’s no slouch either, with a record 23% of the market share sold last month in South Africa alone with its closest competitors only securing 16% and 15% of market share respectively.

After noting “potential demand for super large TV’s” Hisense is focusing its attentions on its premium T910 ULED television to help it sell the next million – or so.

According to the press release issued late Thursday afternoon, the company’s success can be attributed to a number of reasons. Among these is a sharp increase in demand for televisions in the 49-inch and higher range, with consumers recognising the benefits of larger, more detailed panels. Another determining factor is Hisense’s strategic decision to open a factory in Atlantis in the Western Cape. This investment is paying dividends, with local production being able to shelter consumers from the worst of the rise in the rand/dollar exchange rate.

There’s great, there’s gr-eat and then there’s “oh my god, are you [edited] kidding me this is [edited] awesome!”

That’s pretty much how I felt when we first laid our eyes and rather outstretched hand on Hisense’s C20, a 5-inch LTE-enabled Android smartphone first introduced at this year’s CES. You wouldn’t be wrong for thinking it’s an iPhone mixed with one of CAT’s attempts to mobility — it pretty much unofficially is and depending on your taste and needs, that could be a good thing. The C20, which is already available in-store as we speak, comes outfitted with what we’d expect from a high-end smartphone: Snapdragon 415, 13-megapixel camera, 1280p IPS display, 3,200mAh battery and Android 5.1 Lollipop. So the performance and shine are there, but its the life proof features that it boast of.

With Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 415 powering the C20, the overall user experience zips along smoothly and briskly. There’s hardly any hesitation when effecting input actions, accessing the app drawer or launching applications. And viewing angles are also excellent, owing to that IPS display. As you can see from our gallery (demo video to come soon), the KO’s also running a light skin atop Android, but it’s not so cluttered as to make the phone confusing and nearly unusable a la Samsung’s TouchWiz.

In case you were wondering, this shock-, dust- and water proof (up to 1m for 30 minutes) beast is sold at a retail price of R3999. We’ll have our full hands-on with it published in the next week
