Track back to last year December, do you remember one of the local Netflix originals going by the name of How To Ruin Christmas? Well get ready for some more festive cheer (or not, depending on how you look at it of course) as Netflix has announced that How To Ruin Christmas season 2 is set to launch on the streaming platform from the 10th of December 2021. One we recall with fond memories and thoroughly enjoyed, this news is very welcome.

The series left us on a cliff hanger last time out and the highly anticipated second season promises to be even better with more all too familiar family drama, more laughs and more unsolicited monologues from Tumi as the families embark on celebrating Christmas together.

This season picks up a year later and ALL our burning questions will be answered – are Tumi and Khaya finally dating? And how has life been for the blissful newlyweds Beauty and Sbu since their move to London? Since the gang has finally made peace with each other, they expect to enjoy a quiet, intimate Christmas celebration, but things quickly go pear-shaped as an unexpected occurrence shakes both families and sees them banding together to make the most of a very unfortunate situation.

Creator, Rethabile Ramaphakela spoke about the second season, saying, “Off the back of season 1, we know the audience wants answers so now, they will finally get them as we invite everyone back into the lives of the Sellos and Twalas. How to Ruin Christmas season 2 will still bring that chaotic but relatable family drama with everyone’s favourite black sheep, Tumi Sello, at the centre of it all. We have some new faces joining the cast as well as a big twist that will have you reaching for your tissues. We are so proud that, together with Netflix, we are able to spread some Christmas cheer once again in true South African style”.

There’s no denying that South Africa’s favourite families will keep all of us entertained this December, with lots of unexpected surprises, only on Netflix. If you haven’t seen it yet, good thing is there’s still a bit of time for you to catch-up, check here for season 1.

Netflix has confirmed that one of its local originals, How to Ruin Christmas, is set to return for a second season.

Netflix has confirmed that one of its local originals, How to Ruin Christmas, is set to return for a second season. In the comedy series, we were introduced to two families who immediately became most people’s favourite dysfunctional, not-so-guilty pleasure – The Twalas and the Sellos, who together were the messy, yet relatable onscreen family we never knew we needed!

It’s great to know that when Netflix said: “Made by Africans, Watched by the World” they meant it. That ethos has given us the opportunity to create authentically South African characters that we can relate to and tell stories that reflect our realities. In the first season, we were able to give the world a taste of our customs and traditions when it comes to weddings and how we, as South Africans, celebrate Christmas. More importantly, we were hopefully able to spread some joy and laughter throughout the globe, on the back of the tough year that was 2020.

Gearing up for another season honestly feels like getting ready to “go home” for Christmas, where you get to see and catch up with your favourite, and messy, family members. And no families are messier than the Sellos and the Twalas, who are now, bound in matrimony. So, it goes without saying that you should expect more drama, laughs, tears and all-around festive season joy in the new season.

Netflix looks forward to bringing some of our favourite characters back to life and spreading a little more Christmas cheer this December, in true, Ramaphakela Siblings’ style.
