“The name is Bond… James Bond,” a famous one liner most are familiar with that comes from one of the greatest movie trilogies ever created, needless to say 007 James Bond. The next installment in this exciting and fast paced action movie is right around the corner and is officially titled No Time To Die. After much speculation, Daniel Craig is back and reprises the role however, it’s been confirmed that this will be his last. Said to be one of the best to assume the role, Craig has done a stellar job with his Bond credits that include Spectre, Skyfall, Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale, all being crackers and memorable in their own way. The trailer for what is now his last in the Bond trilogy was recently released and it doesn’t disappoint:

No Time To Die features Bond enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica having left active service. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

The movie also features the return of familiar characters who also featured on Spectre including Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Léa Seydoux. One of the most intriguing aspects in movies (for us at least) and especially in Bond movies, is the villain which this time comes in the shape of Oscar winner (for best actor here) Rami Malek. There’s just a lot to love about this one already and in keeping up with our record of always watching Bond movies on the big screen, that tradition isn’t going to let up anytime soon. With it being Craig’s last, there’s no doubt this one’s going to be extra special. No Time To Die is in cinemas from 10 April 2020.

In our preview of this one we had mentioned that we were big fans of the perfect fusion between music and film with Bohemian Rhapsody, our focus today, being a perfect example. We also went onto mention that judging from what we saw and knew about it already, it was a more than interesting proposition. Built on the true story of the iconic and legendary music group Queen and the intriguing cast all overseen by Bryan Singer (who also directed Valkyrie, X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse etc), this always had the makings of being a fantastic movie.

With so many other autobiographical depictions of late, it was a matter of when not if that the story of Queen and Freddie Mercury would be told. The true challenge though was always going to be how well the story was told and handled especially considering the intricacies and sensitives involved.

Cast – Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joseph Mazzello, Aidan Gillen, Tom Hollander, Allen Leech & Mike Myers

Director – Bryan Singer

Genre – Drama/Biography

Running Time – 2h 15m

The movie is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound. They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career. Having suffered greatly without the collaboration of Queen, Freddie manages to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.

Just from reading the above it’s evident that there’s a lot of substance to the movie. And substance and more is what you will get. We were blown away by Bohemian Rhapsody, no lies this is one fantastic movie. There are several great things to say about it and it honestly exceeded our expectations. In Bryan Singer, the movie always was guaranteed to have a custodian and someone who would be able handle it all perfectly but even with that we had no idea just how good it would all come together.

A definite Oscar contender, in our books at least, Bohemian Rhapsody, features almost everything from emotion to excitement and more. We had no idea just how big Queen was and just how rich their musical vault is, it truly is worthy of iconic and legendary status. For true movie and music fans this will no doubt hit all the right notes (no pun intended). And what of the lead? So much to say and not even sure where to begin to be honest, Rami Malek absolutely killed his role as the genius Freddie Mercury. A definite Oscar contender for best lead actor without a doubt.

The movie also allowed us to look into the late Mercury’s musical prowess, the man truly was a larger than life force who was a magician and genius not only from a musical point of view but also from a whole personal character image viewpoint. A true revolutionary icon the man was. We literally can’t find enough words to describe how much respect we now have for the artist and character he was, the group Queen as well as their contributions towards music.

Bohemian Rhapsody is a fantastic proposition. It delves into the life and times of an iconic music band who played a massive role in changing the face of music. Such is the impact it had that we are now going to start going through both Freddie Mercury and the band’s history and their rich musical vault. A definite Oscar contender that will no doubt win with many including people who wouldn’t consider themselves fans of Queen (we originally belonged in this bracket). Perfectly executed and a great watch, Bohemian Rhapsody gets a glowing 8 out of 10 rating from us…you have to go see this one!

It’s in Ster Kinekor cinemas nationwide from 30 November…and we are definitely going to see it again, best believe.

All our thanks go out to Ster Kinekor for the awesome screening which also featured a live stream of the premiere that took place in the UK complete with interviews from the cast and existing members from Queen.

The perfect fusion of music and film is something we’re huge fans of here. Generally, we’re big fans of the two genres separately and when they’re are fused together perfectly to produce something amazing even better. Not to say that we are fans of musicals, far from it in fact, but it’s movies that are done through proper storytelling without the thought of someone breaking out in song (which again we aren’t fans of) that we like the most. One example of this in action is the much anticipated Bohemian Rhapsody movie. Based on one of most iconic music groups in history, Queen, this one definitely looks the part.

The Plot

Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury, who defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound, their near-implosion as Mercury’s lifestyle spirals out of control, and their triumphant reunion on the eve of Live Aid, where Mercury, facing a life-threatening illness, leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. In the process, cementing the legacy of a band that were always more like a family, and who continue to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.

The movie gets its title name from the band’s song released in 1975 on the album: A Night at the Opera, which was effectively their fourth studio album.

The film will comprise of a cool and interesting cast, namely Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, with Lucy Boynton, Aiden Gillen, and Mike Myers.

Bohemian Rhapsody officially opens in all Ster Kinekor cinemas nationwide on 30 November 2018.
