If you rely on Office or Skype to make a living, you may be in for a treat. Microsoft is following up its recent launches of universal Office apps and Office for Mac with the South African introduction of Skype for Business.

Earlier this week, we were treated to a live demonstration of Skype for Business by the folks at Microsoft SA. From the comfort of our office desks. Late last year, the corporation introduced the brand new Office that includes all of the fun stuff that’ll ease productivity. Through the live demonstration we picked up that Skype for Business, meanwhile, largely does what it says on the tin — it expands the company’s Lync communication tool with both a fresher interface and support for talking to regular Skype users. Skype for Business looks very similar to the consumer version of Skype, with the ability to integrate closely into various Office apps.

It is also available on mobile

The mobile skype for business app will feature a central dashboard from which the user can search for contacts, check for and RSVP to upcoming meetings and dig through past archived conversations. Additionally, actually contacting people will be easier thanks to larger onscreen buttons and a full-screen video chat option. A Mobile web version is also available.
