We have a huge crush on Gal Gadot (easily something most guys would say) and ever since she assumed the role of Wonder Woman, the franchise has grown from strength to strength. Speaking of which and in case you weren’t originally aware, there’s a new version of the movie on the horizon titled Wonder Woman 1984. Yes you read that correctly, the movie is coming to us in 2020 despite numerous rumors that it might also be postponed like most other movie franchises this year. This, our friends, is fantastic news and ensures that we’ll at least wrap up the year on a slightly good note despite what’s gone on throughout.

In this one we fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big screen adventure finds her facing two all-new foes: Max Lord and The Cheetah. With director Patty Jenkins back at the helm and Gal Gadot returning in the title role, “Wonder Woman 1984” is Warner Bros. Pictures’ follow up to the DC Super Hero’s first outing, 2017’s record-breaking “Wonder Woman,” which took in $822 million at the worldwide box office. The film also stars Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig as The Cheetah, Pedro Pascal as Max Lord, Robin Wright as Antiope, and Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta.

Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot and Stephen Jones are producing the film. Rebecca Steel Roven Oakley, Richard Suckle, Marianne Jenkins, Geoff Johns, Walter Hamada, Chantal Nong Vo and Wesley Coller are the executive producers.

Patty Jenkins directed from a screenplay she wrote with Geoff Johns & David Callaham, story by Jenkins & Johns, based on characters from DC. Joining the director behind the scenes are several members of her “Wonder Woman” team, including director of photography Matthew Jensen, Oscar-nominated production designer Aline Bonetto (“Amélie”), and Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (“Topsy-Turvy”). Oscar-nominated editor Richard Pearson (“United 93”) is cutting the film. The music is by Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer (“Dunkirk,” “The Lion King”).

Warner Bros. Pictures Presents an Atlas Entertainment/Stone Quarry Production, a Patty Jenkins Film, “Wonder Woman 1984.” It’s set to open in cinemas beginning 16 December 2020, and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures. We’re amped, let’s go!

This is a chance for you to see the film FIRST – a week before its global release!

Yes you read that correctly, one of the biggest blockbusters of the year is Kong: Skull Island (which we’re also quite amped for) – is set to include a unique twist with an outdoor screening experience of the South African premiere of the flick, a week before its global release on 10 March. This is all thanks to Warner Bros. Pictures and Ster-Kinekor.

For one night only, on Friday, 03 March, Joburgers are being treated to the movie premiere on a huge screen and surround sound, befitting to Kong, which will be set up on the top field of St Stithians College in Sandton for this premium cinema event.

“As the country’s leading cinema chain, we are extremely excited to present the premiere of a movie the size of Kong: Skull Island as an alternative screening event. We are constantly striving to present innovative and new cinema offerings to our audiences, as an extension of our promise to deliver great moments,” says Motheo Matsau, Chief of Marketing and Sales of Ster-Kinekor Theatres.

The producers of Godzilla reimagine the origins of one the most powerful monster myths of all in Kong: Skull Island, from Warner Bros. Pictures, Legendary Pictures and Tencent Pictures.

A compelling, original adventure from director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer), the film tells the story of a diverse team of scientists, soldiers and adventurers uniting to explore a mythical, uncharted island in the Pacific, as dangerous as it is beautiful. Cut off from everything they know, the team ventures into the domain of the mighty Kong, igniting the ultimate battle between man and nature. As their mission of discovery becomes one of survival, they must fight to escape a primal Eden in which humanity does not belong.

The film is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and includes quite the star power with Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Brie Larson and John C. Reilly all forming part of the cast. The film releases nationally at Ster-Kinekor’s IMAX, Cine Prestige, 3D and 2D cinemas on Friday, 10 March.

“We believe this outdoor cinema experience will surpass our customers’ expectations, considering that we are hosting the premiere of the film at this event – a week before it hits our cinema screens.”

The event is being staged on the top field of St Stithians College in Sandton. Access to the venue is via the school’s entrance off Bram Fischer Drive, with gates opening at 17:30. The film’s screening starts at 19:30, and bookings are now open for this once-off outdoor cinema event.

The evening promises to be a wonderful mix of an outdoor cinema experience and a feast of delectable artisanal foods, craft beers and wine. Of course, Ster-Kinekor’s freshly popped popcorn and cold drinks will also be on sale to enjoy during the movie.

Tickets for this unique cinema event need to be pre-booked and paid for via the Ster-Kinekor website (www.sterkinekor.com – note the Ts & Cs) and cost R120.00 each. To find out more about this awesome event, a first for our local shores, see here.
