6 Reasons why we’re excited about Nissan’s Gen 3 Formula E race car

We’re coming to you live (well, sort of) from Madrid, Spain, where we’re joining Nissan for the official global reveal of their Gen 3 Formula E World Championship race car. Spirits are high, and there’s been lots to look forward to as team Nissan further commits to the upcoming season.

Back to the reason why we’re here, here’s our list of all the things we love about the new Gen 3 race car from Nissan.

It pays homage to Nissan’s Japanese heritage

The new Gen 3 race car featuring an eye-catching cherry blossom pattern. The pattern is also known as Sakura, the team’s choice to incorporate this iconic flower in its Season 9 livery is not only a nod to the squad’s Japanese DNA, but it also symbolises and celebrates a new beginning.

It’s much more efficient

With the dawn of Gen 3, the engineers made sure to address issues of the past. The new car is said to be the most efficient vehicle yet with 40% of the energy being used in a race being produced be reversative braking.

It’s faster

Gen 3 is the fastest Formula E car to date with a top speed of 320 km/h! However, the fastest recorded speed is 322 km/h. All of that is thanks to that the car now uses both front and rear powertrains with the front coming in at 250 kWto the 350 kW at the rear. This is more than double of the outgoing Gen 2 car.

High speed charging

The Gen 3 race car now features ultra-high speed charging capability of 600 kW for additional energy during a race. This, Nissan says, is almost double the power of the most advanced commercial chargers in the world.

There’s a sustainable element to all of this

With the Formula E World Championship promoting all things clean and renewable, it only makes sense that elements of the race car also live up to this philosophy. The Gen 3 race car batteries are built from sustainably. sourced minerals and the battery cells will be reused and recycled at end of life.
