Mercedes-Benz South Africa has launched the Mercedes-AMG E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ Edition 1, bringing just 12 units of this exclusive performance hybrid to local shores. Priced at R 3,228,200, this limited-production model combines AMG’s high-performance DNA with advanced plug-in hybrid technology.
The Edition 1 packs a serious punch under the hood. The AMG 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo engine teams up with a 120 kW electric motor to deliver a combined system output of 450 kW and 750 Nm of torque.

The result? A blistering 0-100 km/h sprint in just 3.8 seconds with RACE START engaged, while the fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system and active rear-axle steering ensure maximum grip and control.
What sets this hybrid apart is its 28.6 kWh battery pack (21.22 kWh usable), which provides over 100 km of pure electric driving range. The system supports both everyday city commuting and performance driving, with electric assistance always ready to deliver immediate torque response.

Each of the 12 South African units comes finished in MANUFAKTUR Alpine Grey solid paint, complemented by striking yellow topstitching throughout the cabin. The Edition 1 specification includes AMG forged wheels, the AMG Night Package, AMG Exterior Carbon Package, and AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package as standard.
Inside, occupants get AMG Performance seats, MBUX Superscreen with passenger monitor, and hybrid-specific displays showing real-time performance data and energy flow. Yellow seatbelt highlights and exclusive AMG badging reinforce the model’s limited status.

The comprehensive equipment list includes the AMG Driver’s Package, high-performance compound brake system, AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension, 21-inch AMG cross spoke forged wheels, and AMG Performance steering wheel in nappa leather and DINAMICA microfibre.
Charging capabilities are equally impressive, with a standard 11 kW AC onboard charger and 60 kW DC fast charger allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes. The electromechanical brake booster provides seamless transitions between recuperative and hydraulic braking.
AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive modes include “Electric”, “Battery Hold”, and “Sport+”, allowing drivers to switch between whisper-quiet efficiency and full-throttle performance. The top speed is electronically limited to 280 km/h, with electric-only driving possible up to 140 km/h.
