Today Lenovo’s Motorola confirmed that they will be bringing the Moto Z to the South African market before the end of the year. Along with this announcement was the confirmation that the Hasselblad True Zoom Mod for the Moto Z, which will complete the mod range for the Moto Z device, will be launching at the same time.
While our week at IFA Berlin earlier this month might have been dominated by Motorola and its jump-in on the modular smartphone business with their own take – Moto Z with Moto Mods – its the Hasselblad Mod that stood out the most. This system of plug-and-play pieces works on the Moto Z. Moto Mods will work with this generation Moto Z devices and “are designed to work with future generation Moto Z phones” as well. Saucy!
The 5.5-inch quad HD smartphone features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 2600mAh battery with TurboPower charging and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera. The Hasselblad True Zoom Mod then brings a next-level camera experience to the Moto Z, giving it a much more robust set of abilities. Our launch day experience with it suggests that the camera quality is good – good enough to be worth the estimated R4000 price. Oh, and just like the iPhone 7, the Moto Z ditched the headphone jack in favour of a USB-C connector.
Moto Mods are Lenovo’s answer to the LG G5’s swap-out modules. There are four magnetised modules – the Incipio offGRID Power Pack, JBL SoundBoost Speaker, Moto Insta and that Hasselblad True Zoom we so much love – that attach to the back of the Moto Z and give it more battery, better sound or clearer optics.
