The Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus is a device that I have been looking forward to for quite some time. As a long-time user of Samsung devices, I was eager to see what new features and improvements the company had in store for its latest flagship phone. After spending some time with the device, I can say that the Galaxy S23 Plus is an affordable device (compared to competitors) that doesn’t compromise on performance or features.
In terms of design, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus looks and feels great in the hand. It has a glass back which gives it a premium feel. The device is also lightweight, which makes it easy to carry around. It comes in a range of colours, including Phantom Black, Green, Cream and Lavendar.
At the heart of the Galaxy S23 Plus is a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, which is paired with up to 12GB of RAM. This combination of hardware makes the device extremely responsive and snappy, even when running multiple apps at once. In addition to the fast processor and ample RAM, the Galaxy S23 Plus also features a large 6.6-inch AMOLED display, which is incredibly vibrant and sharp. The screen has a 120Hz refresh rate or you can crank it down to 60Hz if you want longer battery life.
One of the standout features of the Galaxy S23 Plus is its camera system. The device features a triple camera setup, with a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 10-megapixel macro camera. Up front is a 12-megapixel selfie camera. The primary camera is capable of taking stunning photos in a variety of lighting conditions, and the ultrawide camera is perfect for capturing sweeping landscapes. The macro camera is also a nice addition, allowing you to get up close and personal with your subjects. However, the night photography is not great, and the images can be quite noisy and lacking in detail in extreme low light conditions. This is a bit disappointing for a device that is marketed as a camera phone, but it’s not a dealbreaker.
Another impressive feature of the Galaxy S23 Plus is its battery life. The device features a large 4700mAh battery, which provides plenty of juice to last through a full day of use. In addition to the large battery, the Galaxy S23 Plus also features fast charging capabilities, which means you can quickly top up your device when you’re running low on battery.
In terms of software, the Galaxy S23 runs the latest version of Samsung’s One UI, which is based on Android 13. The software is clean and easy to use, and includes a number of useful features and customizations. Samsung has also done a great job of optimizing the software to work seamlessly with the hardware, which helps to ensure that the device runs smoothly and without any hiccups.
The S23 also has a few other tricks up its sleeve. The in-display fingerprint sensor is quick and accurate, and I like that I don’t have to fumble with a physical button. The phone is IP68 water and dust resistant, which is a must-have feature for me.
Overall, I am extremely impressed with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus. The device offers an impressive set of features and performance that is hard to beat at its affordable price point. If you’re in the market for a new phone, and you want something that won’t break the bank, I highly recommend giving the Galaxy S23 a closer look.
The Galaxy S23 Plus will cost you R23 999.
