Showmax has today begun rolling out its Max Data Saving mode. The data savvy option is primarily designed to help save users data, aiming to help keep down mobile bills while recommending videos that are tailored for African audiences. While the continent’s online infrastructure is steadily growing, many across the region are still left either relying purely on public WiFi or spotty 3G connections.
Recognizing this, Showmax Max Data Saving mode combines clever video compression tech to give even those with the worst connections fairly solid and reliable streaming. It uses just 50MB per hour.
This follows the earlier introduction of Low and Data Savings modes, which use up to 300MB and 100MB per hour respectively. In comparison, the Maximum Quality setting, which gives you the best possible picture, uses up to 1.4GB per hour.
According to Showmax, the Max Data Saving mode is currently available within the iOS mobile version of the Showmax app and will be rolled out to Android app users soon.
