We literally have been itching to see this one, we’ve probably been anticipating it more than any other movie in recent memory, TENET is the movie in question. Our earlier preview of it back in April this year should also give you an idea of just how much we’ve been waiting for it to drop. We were even worried that we would not be able to see it gracing our screens this year considering what has transpired. But when something’s are meant to be, they usually just happen and to our surprise this was made even sweeter by Ster-Kinekor who were kind enough to invite us to the reopening night of their cinemas.

We were impressed by the new safety protocols all its cinemas adhere to now so best believe there’s no need to worry about your safety especially if you are thinking of heading out to watch anything on the big screen.

Christopher Nolan (undoubtedly one of the best directors in movie history and our fave of all time) is officially back with his next time bending (what he’s best known for) thriller coming in the form of TENET. Movie concepts are everything and the more cleverer and unreal they’re the more appeal they have, none more so than with us. Nolan always does this with all of his work, a glittering list that includes Interstellar, Inception, The Dark Knight Trilogy, Dunkirk and much more. We won’t be ashamed to say it but we absolutely love this guy and all his brilliant work, so it was always going to be a no brainer in how excited we would be to see his next piece. But, is it another masterpiece?

The plot for this one, like most other Nolan Movies, is hard to explain as the concept itself is one that is difficult to fully grasp. The official one is:

Armed with only one word–Tenet–and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time.

Exactly, it doesn’t say much about what to expect. You might then expect something to come from the trailer right? And you wouldn’t be wrong as most usually do and tend to give too much away, but not this time, see for yourself …

All that considered so far, is this one really worth the effort? The simple answer is a resounding YES. The mystery behind it, the special effects as well as the intriguing cast and of course the man behind it (Chris Nolan) should and will be enough to get many individuals to watch.

TENET is a masterfully confusing movie that makes for a complex watch and requires your utmost attention from the very beginning. It is true that you will need to watch it more than once, believe us this is a fact. The movie reaffirms why we love Nolan’s work and his level of thinking which is unparalleled. Like Inception, TENET challenges the way you think about space and time, and how Nolan executes every sequence is a confusing but joyful experience that will have you scratching your head (in a good way).

There’s a certain feel to a Nolan movie that we have seen in his other work, we saw it again in this one, unfortunately we can’t quite explain what that is but it’s just there and it adds to the entire movie watching experience. TENET has a certain intelligence, swagger, style and clever pacing to it that immediately gets your attention from the onset till the end.

The choice in the cast is also quite interesting, it is led by newcomer John David Washington (son of the legendary Denzel Washington) and Robert Pattinson. An unlikely but fantastic pairing, and in Washington’s case this is no doubt the perfect launchpad for him for more future roles … like father like son. And in Pattison’s case, the boy definitely has matured and taken his acting to an elevated level. It’s hard to think he played a not so great role in Twilight … we’re quickly jumping on his bandwagon and even more considering that he is set to also assume the role of the Batman. Special mentions deservedly also go out to the other cast members especially Elizabeth Debicki and Kenneth Branagh who also play their roles masterfully.

One that will no doubt live long in the memory, TENET is a great piece of work adding onto an already sparkling repertoire in Nolan’s portfolio. Needless to say, even though it’s confusing and still has us asking many questions, we loved it and one thing is for sure, we’ll be seeing it again over and over and over again. A great excuse to officially go back to the cinemas, TENET is out in cinemas from Friday, 28 August 2020.

Special thanks once more to the classy folk at Ster-Kinekor for the screening.

If ever there was one movie we would give anything to see on the big screen this year it’s this one coming from Christopher Nolan, our fave movie director of all time and it comes in the shape of TENET. […]

If ever there was one movie we would give anything to see on the big screen this year it’s this one coming from Christopher Nolan, our fave movie director of all time and it comes in the shape of TENET. Various previews of this one came out last year with no definitive first look being visible which helped with build up even more intrigue. This was the case until we finally got the first trailer and what a preview it was:

Nolan’s TENET is an action epic evolving from the world of international espionage. Nolan wrote and directed the film, utilizing a mixture of IMAX® and 70mm film to bring the story to the screen. TENET was filmed on location across seven countries. The international cast is led by John David Washington and also includes Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron T.

The movie is being produced by Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan. Thomas Hayslip served as executive producer. Nolan’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Hoyte van Hoytema, production designer Nathan Crowley, editor Jennifer Lame, costume designer Jeffrey Kurland, visual effects supervisor Andrew Jackson, and special effects supervisor Scott Fisher. The score is composed by Ludwig Göransson.

Coming from one of the brilliant minds of our generation who produces mind bending movies that are usually equally brilliant conceptually ((including Inception, Intastellar, Dunkirk, The Dark Knight trilogy and more), it’s easy to see why we call TENET a MUST SEE. It’s scheduled to be in cinemas 17 July…we hope!

[Updated] The movie is now set to be in cinemas from Friday (28 August 2020)
