When you walk into a KFC, you’re probably thinking “finger lickin’ good” as you seek to satisfy your rumbling stomach, not “can I get track with that?”
The local division of the food chain has unveiled a solution to the problem that many up and coming artists face with greasy fingers: an online, free to host service that allows users from all over the world to stream to un-discovered and unsigned artists.
It’s called the KFC Soundbite, and before you rush out to your nearest fried chicken fast food outlet you can’t really get your hands — greasy or not — on the service. Read on for the explanation.
How it works is that artists are invited to register on the website and upload their tracks onto the SoundBite platform. Music fans can access the platform and listen to 30 second SoundBites of their favourite tracks and have the power to control the charts through likes, shares and downloads to move the songs up and down the chart.
To unlock a full track, users need a unique code which they get on a KFC till slip when they purchase a KFC Streetwise 2 or 3.
Speaking at the launch, Thabisa Mkhwanazi, KFC’s Corporate Affairs Director for Africa said; “Our vision has always been to create a platform which gives both aspiring artists and music lovers an opportunity to connect and interact. KFC has a longstanding partnership with different music properties as well as individuals in the industry. We are committed to continue finding experiences that’ll contribute to the development of the music industry“.
