The bakkie market is popular in the Mzansi with Toyota, Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, and Nissan, all offering bakkies that fit in the range. By far, Toyota is the most popular, with the oldest offering being the Nissan Navara. Nissan has unveiled the new Navara and confirmed that it is available from dealership floor as of today.
Nissan promises the new Navara has many best-in-class technologies along with an array of Nissan Intelligent Mobility features and safety systems. The technology packed into the bakkie offers advanced systems for dynamic performance both on and off-road. Nissan promises that the new Navara will deliver confidence, driving pleasure, practicality, and pride of ownership.

Among the Nissan Intelligent Mobility features wrapped into the new Navara line-up is Intelligent Forward Collision Warning to help reduce accidents and Intelligent Emergency Braking that activates to avoid collisions and reduce stress when driving in traffic. The bakkie offers the Intelligent Around View Monitor using four cameras to help make navigating in tight spaces, parallel parking, and hitching a trailer easier.
Bakkies fitted with four-wheel drive also get a new off-road monitor to check for surrounding obstacles at low speeds. The new Navara’s features include a stronger rear axle bringing increased payload capacity, and additional truck bed volume. The rear bumper now has an integrated step to make accessing the bed easier. A new steering rack has been adopted to enhance the manoeuvrability at low speeds and steering response across the range.
For those obsessed with numbers, the new Navara is powered by Nissan’s 2.5 litre turbocharged diesel engine. The 2.5l power-train is available in two levels of output. The high output engine, available on higher grade models, delivers 140kW power and 450Nm torque, while the mid-output engine, delivering 120kW power and 403Nm, the most powerful engine in the entry and mid grades bakkie segment. In addition, the Navara engine line-up is includes a 2.5l petrol engine delivering 118kW and 233Nm available on the entry grade XE Single Cab.
