South Africa’s mobile landscape has a new player: C-Connect, a virtual mobile network operator (MVNO) aiming to shake things up with a focus on affordability and rewards.
Launched nationwide this past week, C-Connect promises cost-effective mobile services for prepaid subscribers who value getting something extra for their money.

Here’s what you need to know:
- Focus on Prepaid: C-Connect operates solely in the prepaid space, offering SIM cards with data and airtime bundles.
- Leveraging Existing Infrastructure: The company utilizes C-Cell’s network infrastructure, so users can expect somewhat reliable coverage.
- Rewarding Loyalty: C-Connect’s unique feature is its “Cha-Chings” program. When users top up their airtime or data, they earn 10% back in Cha-Chings, an in-app currency. This earned currency can be redeemed for various lifestyle benefits, including prepaid electricity, water, event tickets, and even gaming vouchers.
- Convenient Sign-Up: New subscribers can sign up entirely online through the C-Connect app or website. There’s no need to visit a physical store for RICA, which can also be completed online.
- Multiple Top-Up Options: Topping up your phone is made easy with various options: the C-Connect app, website, USSD (*105#), partner stores, Ringas vouchers, and Blu Vouchers. Data usage on the app and airtime via USSD are free of charge.
Whether C-Connect will disrupt the South African mobile market remains to be seen.
